CURRENT UPDATE

Mainline Pipe Installation Continues Week of September 9

Contractors are continuing the installation of the mainline pipes throughout the course.  While crews are working in areas near the line of play, staff will need to adjust some of the routing of holes to maintain a safe perimeter near the work areas.

Changes to the routing of individual holes will likely be needed during the week.  Discounts to green fees will be provided if any hole adjustments are necessary.

During this phase, parts or an entire hole may need to be closed, but this will be limited to a single hole only on any one day. Updates will be posted in the golf shop, and green fees will be discounted when any hole is partially or completely closed.

New Irrigation Pipe Has Arrived. Installation Work to Begin Monday, August 26

Naperbrook Golf Course will remain open during the project.

Work is expected to begin Monday, August 26 at Naperbrook with the installation of the new main lines for the irrigation system. Crews will be mainly in out of play areas and rough with some fairway crossings while they trench in the new pipe.  During this phase there will be limited interruptions to the routing of any hole. Changes will be posted daily at the golf shop.

In early September, crews will shift to the installation of pipe and sprinklers on each hole. During this phase, parts or an entire hole may need to be closed, but this will be limited to a single hole only on any one day. Updates will be posted in the golf shop, and green fees will be discounted when any hole is partially or completely closed.

Our 2024 Naperbrook irrigation system replacement project will take place from Late August until Mid-November.

During this project, Naperbrook Golf Course will remain open for play.

  • August: mobilization of equipment, site preparation and trenching (mainly in out-of-play areas)
  • September/October: installation of new pipe and sprinklers
  • November: completion of installation, testing and winterizing

Beginning in late August, construction will begin on the replacement of the irrigation system at Naperbrook Golf Course.  The goal of this project is to replace the original pipe and sprinkler system that was installed in 1990 when the golf course was built.  Expected useful lifespan for a golf course irrigation system is around 30 years, and due to the age and challenges maintaining the current system, the Naperville Park District approved a contract with Commercial Irrigation to install new pipe and sprinklers for the entire golf course.  It is expected the new sprinkler system will provide improved coverage while allowing for more efficient use of irrigation water, which will help staff provide excellent turf quality throughout the season.

The construction crews will begin in late August and early September installing the larger diameter main lines by trenching, mainly in out of play areas.  Trenches will have the sod removed and then replaced after the pipe is installed, limiting the impact to the turf on the course.  Most of the installation of the new pipe and sprinklers is expected to take place in September and October.  Contractors will be on the course daily, Monday – Friday, doing the bulk of the installation work, with some work likely also scheduled for Saturdays.  This first part of the project is expected to have very limited impact on the playability of the golf course.

Once the main lines are installed throughout the course, crews will shift to working on installing the smaller diameter pipe and sprinklers on each hole.  This part of the process will have crews pulling pipe into the ground, and any digging being limited to installing the sprinklers.  Since most of this part of the installation will occur in the fairways and around the greens and tees, parts or entire golf holes will need to be closed to allow the crews to safely work.  Each day, staff will update clubhouse signage to provide details on expected impacts from the construction work, and starters and golf shop staff will inform golfers of any specific hole closures or changes prior to play.  During this part of the installation process, when a hole is required to be closed or partially closed, we will be discounting green fees.
