Springbrook Golf Course Renovation Update and Reopening Schedule
Work continues at Springbrook Golf Course preparing for the re-opening of the 18-hole course after being closed since last August. This renovation project, which came in under $3.5 million, was completed successfully last fall, and despite some less than stellar weather in the winter and early spring, the course is close to being ready for play again. Staff is excited and eager to welcome everyone back.
The updates and changes to the golf course are looking great, and most of the new turf is established and ready for play. However, with the renovation work being completed in late fall of last year, several areas that were seeded towards the end of October and into November did not have a chance to germinate. Over the winter, the preferred blanket of snow never materialized, and instead we received some heavy rainfall on several occasions that washed out the seed in some areas. Staff has re-seeded those areas, but the early spring was colder than normal, and the warmer temperatures that were needed to allow grass to germinate and grow were not consistently experienced until early May. This limited the timeframe for optimal growing to just the past few weeks.
With some areas on the golf course still not ready for play, Springbrook will reopen slowly with limited tee times available beginning Thursday, June 15. Some tees will not be open for play at this time, and those impacted holes will have tee areas moved up to the fairway. Depending on how the turf on the course is maturing and responding to play, additional daily tee times will be made available daily later in the month, with the goal of having the course fully opened again later in the summer.
To celebrate the reopening of the golf course, a grand re-opening ribbon cutting event is planned for Wednesday, June 14 at 4:30 pm at Springbrook Golf Course. The event will include remarks from dignitaries and guests, refreshments and a putting contest on the practice green. The public is welcome to attend.
The Naperville Park District thanks you for your patience while Springbrook has been closed for this renovation. We hope to see you back enjoying the updated golf course this summer.
